Secure, Reliable Credit Card Payments

Credit card payments are a major component of our CIS billing software offerings, because such payments produce immediate benefits:

  • Faster payment processing
  • Increased productivity of your utility’s billing department
  • A reduction in collections
  • A higher level of customer service for your consumers
  • 24/7 payment opportunity

To make credit card payments even more appealing, SEDC’s Credit Card Payment Gateway can be used to collect payments via credit card at absolutely no cost to your utility! Secure, real-time payment updates will still be posted to the utility billing database, but the entire transaction fee is offset by the customer choosing to pay with a credit card.

The service works by redirecting consumers who wish to pay through other credit card venues (including SEDC’s online Bill Presentment and Payment feature, our interactive voice response interfaces, the Remote Payment System, and CSR Inquiries) to the Payment Gateway. The consumer is then notified that a credit card convenience fee will apply, and if the consumer continues with the transaction (it can be canceled at any time throughout the process), your utility’s database will be updated with the amount paid less the convenience fee. The convenience fee pays for the entire transaction, without any costs incurred by your utility!

For even greater convenience, your utility chooses the fee structure charged to the consumer. Your utility may also choose to subsidize part of the fee structure. Either way, the setup is easy to understand and completely transparent, since the application provides the exact amount of the convenience fee to the consumer before the transaction is completed. And when the transaction is complete, the consumer is provided with an electronic receipt of the full transaction, including the approval code. The entire process is supported by online FAQs and 24/7 automated phone support, as well as live phone support during normal business hours.

PCI Compliance

To ensure that our customers' transactions are safe and secure from outside interception and interference, SEDC’s Credit Card Processing network is compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS). PCI compliance is based on an intensely scrutinized set of standards and regulations, and requires us to keep the network updated (and upgraded) on the newest security risks and industry best practices. It’s another way we are minimizing risk for our customers and providing the highest possible security standards for our Financial Services and for UPN, our utility billing and accounting software.
